Have domestic violence survivors ever asked you if they can leave the state with their children to escape from abuse? Have they ever asked you how to enforce a custody order if a perpetrator keeps a child in another state? In partnership with the National Center on Protection Orders and Full Faith and Credit, the Legal Resource Center on Violence Against Women (LRC) will teach attorneys about interstate custody and domestic violence laws and practice. The session will provide participants with an overview of the services available from the LRC and introduce them to the legal issues involved when survivors cross state or tribal lines with their children. Participants will learn about the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA) and related laws.
